James Estes is currently Principal Solo Cornet of the Orchid City Brass Band.  Mr. Estes  is also Adjunct Trumpet Professor at Palm Beach Atlantic University, and he has coached the brass section of the Treasure Coast Youth Symphony since 2006.  Mr. Estes has played first trumpet for The King’s Academy productions and Maltz Jupiter Theater.

Mr. Estes has a B.M.Ed. degree from U of Southern Miss; a M.S.degree from U of Illinois-Urbana and completed the coursework and qualifying exams for a Ph.D. degree at U of Miami.  He is also a National Board Certified Teacher. Mr. Estes was a private student of Vincent Cichowicz-Chicago Symphony and Northwestern U; and Gilbert Johnson, Solo Trumpet of the Philadelphia Orchestra and U of Miami.

For 23 years Mr. Estes was Co-Principal Trumpet of the Florida Philharmonic and its predecessors.  He’s played Principal Trumpet in Florida Grand Opera, Miami City Ballet, Palm Beach Opera, Stuttgart Ballet, American Ballet Theater and Peter Nero and Pops at the Philharmonic.  With the Florida Philharmonic Orchestra Mr. Estes performed with some of the most famous conductors and soloists in the world.  During his tenure with the orchestra he recorded 3 CD’s, and appeared with Luciano Pavarotti on Miami Beach before and estimated 250,000 people.

In pops concerts, Mr. Estes played for Henry Mancini, John Williams, Bobby Short, Herb Alpert, Al Hirt, Doc Severinsen, Ray Charles, Steve Lawrence and Edie Gorme’, Mel Torme’,  Tex Beneke and the Glenn Miller Band, Patti Page, Diihann Carroll, Vic Damone, Frank Sinatra, Jr.

As a teacher, Mr. Estes has produced some of the top brass players in the state of Florida.  Three of his former students have been first chair trumpet in the state, two horn players have had that honor, and numerous trombone and euphonium players have been selected for All-State.
