Charlie Savot has over 40 years experience teaching in the Suzuki method. With a BA in Music Education from Westminster College, New Wilmington, PA, Charlie began her pursuit of training in Talent Education teaching and mentoring blind and multi-handicapped students at the Kentucky School for the Blind with Dorothy Nolan and at the University of Louisville with Virginia Schneider. She has taught in Suzuki programs in Illinois and Indiana and now teaches with the Black Hills Suzuki School in Rapid City, SD.
Charlie co-directs the Black Hills String Retreat in Rapid City, a five-day orchestra camp whose mission is to integrate string students from the highly successful public school orchestra program with Suzuki students from around the mid-west. Students participate in age-appropriate orchestras, group classes, master classes, and ensembles and are coached by renowned teachers from throughout the United States.
As a member of the Black Hills Suzuki School faculty, Charlie teaches violin and viola students from age three through seniors in high school. She and colleague Deb Knowles also teach the parent education course and the beginner Twinkle Class. The Black Hills Suzuki School and its eight teachers provide group lessons, master classes, recitals, an annual workshop, and large group concerts for over 110 students.
