Heather Blackburn is an artist/teacher originally from New York and based in Portland, OR. She holds degrees from the Peabody Institute and Washington State University, has held 4 one year positions with the Oregon Symphony, was most recently guest principal cello with Portland Opera, has recorded several albums with Pink Martini and performs frequently with Portland Cello Project, Oregon Ballet Theatre orchestra, and her string quartet -the Arnica String Quartet. Ms. Blackburn has held adjunct cello teaching positions at Pacific University and Reed College, as well as teaching both cello and chamber music at the Community Music Center. Her students have played in Metropolitan Youth Symphony, Portland Youth Philharmonic and Rose City Youth Orchestras. Having taught cello for 20 years, Heather believes that a good foundation is crucial to (hopefully!) a life long love of playing the cello and of music. After helping students correct habits which hinder them from progressing, she believes the Suzuki method is THE BEST way to start children playing the instrument. And IT’S FUN!! Currently accepting students from age 4 to begin in September 2017.
