Gretchen Seaver Lee, violinist and violist, holds a Master’s degree in Music Education and a Bachelor’s degree in violin performance, both from Penn State University, where she studied under violinist James Lyon and violist Timothy Deighton. Additionally, Gretchen completed her Suzuki teacher training at the Hartt School of Music and Ithaca College. She has been teaching violin and viola private lessons and group classes since 2004, while residing in State College, PA.

Highlights of her teaching achievements include the honor of her students performing at the 2006 Suzuki Method World Convention (Torino, Italy), and her founding and directing of a summer fiddling camp for Suzuki students. Over the past decade and a half, Gretchen has been in demand as a guest folk and fiddle clinician for many student programs and private studios. Additionally, she was on the faculty of Greenwood Furnace Folk Gathering, a folk music intensive workshop.

While in State College, Gretchen played both violin and viola with various orchestras and theater companies throughout the central PA region, and performed regularly as a fiddler with traditional Irish music group Callanish, with whom she recorded two albums. In 2018, Gretchen relocated to Austin, where she teaches violin and viola through Suzuki Strings of Austin, and maintains a violin and viola studio in the Austin Independent School District. She is active as a freelance violinist and violist, both as a fiddle player with Austin Friends of Traditional Music, and as a violinist and violist in the Central Texas Philharmonic. In her free time, Gretchen enjoys baking, working with textiles, and spending time in nature.
