Geralyn Ashburn has taught violin the Suzuki way since 1988, having trained with William Starr, Louise Wear, Linda Wear-Fiore, Allen Lieb and Teri Einfeldt. Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees are from The Florida State University College of Music (B.M.E., M.M.E. w/ Thesis, Performance Certificate in Violin, and minor in psychology). Clifford Madsen headed her thesis committee.

A private violin instructor since 1983, she directed one of the Tallahassee Youth Orchestra (1983-1987), taught orchestra in Charlotte, NC, and co-taught Paula Zimmerman’s “Kids in Koncert” Suzuki program, Lenoir Rhyne College (NC). Students from Ms. Ashburn’s studio have won concerto competitions, college scholarships, and continued in music and other fields.

First Violin in the Tallahassee Symphony since 2000, she previously played Principal Second Violin with the Salisbury Symphony, Salisbury, NC, and First Violin in the Western Piedmont Symphony, Lenoir, NC. Other symphony positions include the Pensacola (FL), Albany (GA), and Ft. Lauderdale symphonies.

Ms. Ashburn lives in Tallahassee, Florida.
