George began classical guitar study with Robert Guthrie. He holds a B.Mus in classical guitar performance from the University of North Carolina School of the Arts (formerly North Carolina School of the Arts), where he was a student of Segovia protege Jesus Silva. After inaugurating the classical guitar program at UNC-Chapel Hill and teaching there for two years, he began a 38-year career as a high school teacher, concurrently with which he continued to teach privately and at Augusta College (now Augusta University), where he initiated the classical guitar curriculum in 1995. Now retired from the classroom, George devotes his time to teaching at Augusta University Music Conservatory and Carolina Academy of Music and playing as a volunteer at hospitals, adult daycare facilities, and retirement communities. When not teaching, practicing, or performing, George enjoys hanging out with his wife, soprano Joanne Greene, and his four personal trainers (the canine variety).
