Fred R. McKinney
Fred McKinney was a group leader in analytical research and residue chemistry for many years and now enjoys working with families while teaching classical guitar. He holds degrees in both chemistry and classical guitar performance. In 2004 he began teaching guitar full-time and opened Southwick Guitar Studio. After moving to Hickory in December 2009 he opened Hickory Guitar Studio. He is a registered member of the Suzuki Association of the Americas and has completed Suzuki guitar teacher training and registration through guitar book 5. He also loves performing the lively traditional dance music of Ireland and Scotland, and recorded two CDs with the Celtic group Gaelwynd (“Out on the Ocean” and “Northern Lights”). He accompanied Susan Vinson Sherlock on her CD of hammered dulcimer music entitled “Wateree”. Fred is an active member of the Piedmont Classic Guitar Society, the National Suzuki Association, and the triad Fiddle and Bow traditional music organization.
