Emily Shively completed her Suzuki teacher training and received her certification in Unit 1 with the Suzuki Association of the Americas in Stevens Point Wisconsin in August of 2013. She then completed her Unit 2 and 3 training in Summer of 2018 at MacPhail Center for Music in Minneapolis, MN.  She currently teaches the Suzuki Method of piano to students in the North Metro area of Minneapolis and welcomes new students.

Emily developed a love for music at a young age and began learning in the Piano Suzuki Method along with her siblings at age 8. As a young adult she was invited to participate with various local churches where she learned to perform and lead congregations in hymns and worship songs. These opportunities provided a great motivation for her to work on her improvisation skills in piano, guitar and voice and she progressed well. Over the years she developed a desire to share her passion with the next generation of musicians and decided to enroll in the teacher training program that Suzuki offers.

Emily understands the importance of music education in a child’s life and how it helps to develop other academic areas because learning piano requires discipline, attention to detail, hard work, listening, and natural learning by doing. Emily has taught levels 1 and 2 since 2013 and welcomes working with new students and their parents. While her focus is teaching young children, she believes it is never too late to learn!
