Emily Leaphart is a native of Lexington, SC, where she began playing viola in her elementary school at the age of 10.  Emily graduated from the Eastman School of Music in Rochester, NY, where she studied with John Graham, George Taylor, and Melissa Matson. While at ESM, she was a member of the Musica Nova and OSSIA new music ensembles and was a founding member of the musician-led New Eastman Outreach Orchestra (NEO). She is an active multi-genre performer throughout upstate New York and New England with a special interest in new music and improvisation.

Emily is a certified instructor in both the Suzuki Method and Creative Ability Development (an improvisation-based, divergent learning approach). She also serves as a Teaching Artist at Bridge Boston Charter School in Roxbury, MA. When not performing, Emily teaches violin and viola to groups and individuals of all ages. Her private studio is located in Brighton, MA.
