Elizabeth Upson Perez, originally from North Carolina, is currently teaching at the Nova Scotia Suzuki School of Music and performing in the Halifax, Nova Scotia area. Previously, she was the violist for the Center for New Music Ensemble and performed with multiple symphony orchestras in the Midwest region, including the Quad City Symphony Orchestra and the Des Moines Symphony. At the same time, she has performed with renowned musicians as part of the Four Seasons Chamber Music Festival—Next Generation concert series in Greenville, NC and is the violist in the Voce String Quartet.

Equally experienced as a teacher and performer, her enthusiastic teaching style is well-known amongst her colleagues and has resulted in invitations to teach advanced middle and high school students as an Alumni Artist at the ECU Summer Chamber Music Institute (NC) for the past three years. While living in the Midwest, she was invited to teach students in the University of Iowa Chamber Music Program and at Coe College in Cedar Rapids, IA. As an experienced and passionate arts promoter, she was invited to speak at public schools in eastern Iowa and undergraduate music classes at the University of Iowa about the importance of arts in the community and careers in the arts.

She completed her Suzuki teacher training under Joanne Bath at East Carolina and was a member of the Greenville Suzuki Association. In the summer of 2018, she was invited to teach at the Nova Scotia Suzuki Institute in Halifax, NS. Previously, she has taught at the Fairview Elementary School Violin Project in Bloomington, IN, the Eastern Youth Orchestras based in Greenville, NC, the Center for Young Musicians in Pittsburgh, PA and taught at the renowned Preucil School of Music in Iowa City.

Currently, she is working towards her Doctor of Musical Arts in Viola Performance and Pedagogy degree from the University of Iowa (ABD). She recently received her Master of Music degree in Viola Performance from the Indiana University Jacobs School of Music and received her Bachelor of Music in Violin Performance from East Carolina University.
