Several of Mr. Arrington’s longtime students have been concertmasters of regional youth orchestras, including Trypo and CAPA, and held principal positions with the Pittsburgh Youth Symphony. His students have performed in the Heinz Hall Lobby, Governor’s mansion, and opened for NPR’s “From The Top.” In 2010, Mr. Arrington was chosen as a Shinichi Suzuki Teacher Training Scholar and granted a scholarship to attend the American Suzuki Institute at Steven’s Point in Wisconsin. As a Suzuki clinician, he has taught violin and composition at the Green Mountain Suzuki Institut in Vermont, and South Indian Carnatic violin for the Sound Encounters program at the Ottawa Suzuki Institute and at the Colorado Suzuki Institute. An article about his experience learning Carnatic violin entitled “Becoming a Beginner Again” was published in the SAA journal.

In 2004, Mr. Arrington received an MM in Composition from Carnegie Mellon University where he was a scholarship student of Leonardo Balada. As a violinist, he has studied privately with Huei Sheng Kao (Pittsburgh Symphony Assistant Concertmaster), Masao Kawasaki (The Juilliard School), Yehonatan Berick (University of Michigan), and participated in the Aspen, Bowdoin, and Masterworks music festivals. In addition to teaching, Mr. Arrington performs with the Westmoreland Symphony Orchestra and is the founding director of “Musicians with a Mission”, a nonprofit which currently has 20 volunteers bringing classical music into local nursing and personal care homes. Mr. Arrington completed his BA in Music (summa cum laude) from Middlebury College in 2001. There, Devin performed with renowned guitarist Phil Keaggy and performed in a bluegrass band. Upon graduating, Devin received a grant from the Vermont Arts Council to form the Quintown Community Strings Program, which he directed in rural Vermont. As a composer, Devin Arrington’s music has been performed at Carnegie Hall in New York City and as far away as the Great Hall of the Composer’s in St. Petersburg, Russia. His music has been broadcast on WQXR 96.3 NYC as part of the McGraw-Hill Company’s Young Artist Showcase hosted by Robert Sherman and on WQED Pittsburgh. He is also the recipient of a 2006 fellowship in Music – Classical Composition from the Pennsylvania Council for the Arts and a Sprout Fund Seed Award grant.
