American violinist, Christina Knudson currently maintains a private violin studio in Yokohama and one in her home in Kawasaki. She can teach in both English and Japanese. She has experience teaching students from age 3 to adult and from absolute beginner to college-level students. As a conservatory trained violinist, she teaches a solid foundation in violin technique, theory and repertoire.

Ms. Knudson received training in Suzuki Book 1 from the DFW WOW Suzuki Institute in Dallas, Texas and Book 2 Teacher Training at the Seattle-Japan Suzuki Institute in Seattle, Washington. She received training in Suzuki Book 3 at the Northern California Suzuki Institute in Santa Rosa as well as Books 1 and 2 of the Mark O’Connor Method. In 2021, she will receive her training in Book 4 via an online Zoom teacher training course through the Pennsylvania Suzuki Institute.

As a violin teacher, her goal is to create a positive learning environment while cultivating the student’s love for music. She strongly believes in developing music-reading and ear-training skills in her student’s music education.

As a performer, Ms. Knudson has given recitals throughout California and Japan. She can be heard performing and touring throughout Japan with Tokyo-based IlluminArt Philharmonic Orchestra. She continues to maintain her contract with California Symphony by traveling to American three times a year to perform. In addition to performing with these orchestras, Ms. Knudson has participated in the National Repertory Orchestra in Colorado, the National Orchestral Institute in Maryland and the Hot Springs Festival in Arkansas. During her stay in Hot Springs, Ms. Knudson appeared as soloist with the Hot Springs Festival Orchestra for a masterclass with Janet Sung.

Ms. Knudson received her Bachelor of Music in Violin Performance from California State University, Long Beach, where she graduated magna cum laude. She graduated with a Master of Music at the San Francisco Conservatory of Music and completed the Professional Studies Diploma the following year at the San Francisco Conservatory of Music as a scholarship student of Bettina Mussumeli. She has previously studied with Phillip Levy, Bing Wang, Mateja Marinkovic and Catherine Van Hoesen. In her spare time, Ms. Knudson enjoys running marathons and playing with her newborn baby.
