Based in Philadelphia, Catherine Kei Fukuda is a violinist, music educator, and passionate advocate for classical music as a vehicle for social change. Kei has been dedicated to her work as a teaching artist at Play On, Philly! and Project 440 and is continuously exploring ways to use music education and performance as tools for inspiring, empowering, and uniting people of all backgrounds. She performs regularly with the Britt Festival Orchestra, Chamber Orchestra of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania Ballet, and Philly POPS and has in the past played with Kansas City Symphony, Akron Symphony Orchestra and Symphony in C. Additionally, Kei is excited to be assisting Yumi Kendall on the Suzuki Alumni Project (www.suzukialumniproject.org), an initiative that celebrates the positive impact the Suzuki Method has had on former Suzuki kids through Suzuki alumni performances.

Kei began her musical studies with Terry Peters at a local Suzuki violin program in Connecticut and later continued her studies in New York and at the Hartt School of Music. After graduating from Swarthmore College with a double major in biology and music, she switched her focus back to studying the violin under the guidance of Choong-Jin (C.J.) Chang in Philadelphia. She has also studied with Miami String Quartet violinists Ivan Chan and Cathy Meng Robinson at Kent State University and with Benny Kim at the University of Missouri Kansas City.
