As a teacher of Suzuki piano, Carol Cross has maintained a private studio in Ellensburg, Washington since 1981. Her training includes a Bachelor of Arts degree from the University of Washington and a Master of Music degree in Piano Performance and Pedagogy from Central Washington University. Ms. Cross studied with Dr. Haruko Kataoka, co-founder of the Suzuki Piano School, and in 1990, traveled to Matsumoto, Japan, for 3 months to observe the Suzuki method where it originated. Among her other mentors are Doris Koppelman, Gail Lange, Rita Hauck, Doris Harrell, and Joan Krzywicki. National Certification as Instructor in Piano was conferred through the National Music Teachers’ Association in 1986 and in 1992, she was named an official Suzuki Piano Teacher Trainer by the Suzuki Association of the Americas. She has been a guest clinician and teacher trainer at workshops and Institutes in the U.S., Canada, Brazil and Ireland. Carol is a founding board member of the Suzuki Association of Washington State, has directed the annual Washington State Suzuki Festival for 33 years and is active in her local chapter of the Washington Music Teachers’ National Association. She was the 2009 Chair for the WSMTA Conference and the Piano Coordinator for the 2018 SAA Conference.
