Carli Bates has 15 years of teaching experience, both as a private music instructor and a public school teacher. She maintained a Suzuki cello studio of all ages and served as the orchestra director in the Edwardsville, Illinois public school system for the past 6 years. During her tenure as director, her orchestra was nominated and performed at the 2011 Illinois Music Educators (IMEA) All-State Convention. Her cello students have won top honors in IGSMA Competitions and the IMEA All-District and All-State orchestra.
Ms. Bates received a Master of Music in cello performance along with a teaching assistantship in the Missouri String Project at the University of Missouri-Columbia and completed her Bachelor of Music at the University of Nevada, Las Vegas (UNLV) in music education and cello performance with Dr. Andrew Smith. She has studied with Andrew Luchansky at California State University-Sacramento (CSUS) where she taught the Suzuki technique and assisted the CSUS String Project under Judy Weigart-Bossaut.
Throughout her career, she has performed with the Las Vegas Philharmonic, St. Louis Civic Symphony, Missouri Symphony, the Odyssey Chamber Orchestra, Fiddleback Ensemble, the Chautauqua Summer Music Festival, the Brandeis Summer Music Festival, and the Las Vegas Summer Music Festival.
After recently becoming a resident of Portland, Oregon, Ms. Bates has turned her focus to launching a private Suzuki studio that synergizes a high level of instrumental instruction with a commitment to nurturing the whole child.
