Dr. Andy Ng Yan Tin, professional violin teacher, completed a Masters in Music Performance at Redlands University with Todor Pelev. He studied pedagogy with Cathryn Lee and Barbara Barber, compiler of Solos for Young Violinists.  As a member of the Suzuki  Association of the Americas and certified Suzuki violin method teacher, he takes students as young as two years old.  With weekly individual and group lessons all students have opportunities to perform at monthly student showcases. Besides studying the New Approach with  Kato Havas and cello with Wendy Liu, Andy has earned a Doctorate in Public Health from Loma Linda University and organized six annual Music & Fitness 4 Kids Camps in California.  From March, 2011-January, 2013, he has taught violin, viola and cello in Bentley Music Academy.  He has organised Bentley faculty to perform Schubert’s Trout Quintet and Dvorak’ Dumky piano trio.

Returning to Malaysia in Sept, 2010, Dr. Andy Ng has over 40 years experience teaching music, violin, viola, piano, cello, guitar and voice. 

Besides passing ABRSM graded exams with distinction, Dr. Ng received a full 100% scholarship from University of Redlands to complete a Master in Music Performance in 1993.  Dr. Ng has performed in professional orchestras such as Bakersfield Symphony, Redlands Symphony Orchestra.

His teachers have been Harry Khoo, Todor Pelev, Kato Havas (violin); Wendy Liu—Shanghai Philharmonic Orchestra principal cellist, (cello) Dr. Leonard Walters, (viola), Alex Abeshaganadan, Edwin College, (guitar).  

Besides two graduate recitals, Dr. Ng has performed on television, churches, universities and concert stages in Malaysia, Singapore, Thailand, Taiwan, Phillippines, China, Korea, USA, France, Great Britain & Denmark.  

Dr. Ng began teaching at the age of 14, with his first students getting distinction in their music exams.  He began using the Suzuki Method in 1979.  After  master classes with Kato Havas in 1990, he began using Havas New Approach principles of playing without stage fright and inner singing.  Some of his students have completed Masters in Music Performance, others have performed professionally in Carnegie Hall, still others have used the music skills in bringing joy to thousands.

Dr. Ng enjoys teaching all ages from 2 years old to retirees, from beginners to master classes, both group lessons as well as private coaching.  Dr. Ng has taught for Talent-makers, Ammonite Yamaha Music School, and Bentley Music Academy, and his own home studio in Bandar Utama. Beginning November, 2012 he teaches part-time at Pangkor Island, Perak, Malaysia.

Students are requested to be punctual for all lessons.  Daily practice of 45 minutes is encouraged.  Lesson notes maybe emailed to the student and/or parents after each private or group lesson. Every student is encouraged to perform at regularly scheduled recitals to encourage and motivate progress in music performance and appreciation.

Preventive Care Counseling and Lifestyle Medicine

As a preventive care specialist, with a Doctor of Public Health from Loma Linda University, California, USA, Dr. Ng consulted in lifestyle medicine at PPM, Pusat Perubatan Menara, in Bukit Jelutong and Telecom Menara.  He focused on weight management, smoking cessation, diabetes and heart disease, and stress management.

During his twelve years as director of preventive care at Pacific Health Educatipn Center, Bakersfield, California, Dr Ng developed programs such as stop smoking brief counseling using the 4 Laws of Happiness,  weight management behavior modification programs, stress management with music therapy and spiritual support,  and music and fitness for kids summer camps. 

Dr Ng has trained over 500 health professionals from over fifty countries in preventive care, exercise physiology and fitness, sports nutrition and addiction and smoking cessation, and stress management.
