André Rodrigues holds a bachelor’s degree in Brazilian popular music from the Universidade Estadual de Campinas (Brazil), a master’s degree in classical guitar performance from the Université de Montréal and a doctorate degree in performing arts with co-supervision in musicology from this same institution, for which he was funded by the Fonds de recherche du Québec – Société et culture. He has been awarded several grants for numerous projects by the Conseil des arts de Montréal, the Conseil des arts et des lettres du Québec, and by the Canada Council for the Arts. 

Winner of the prestigious World Music Opus Prize 2014 for the concert of the year for his solo recital “Choros and Waltzes from Brazil”, offered by the Quebec Music Council, Rodrigues performs on a regular basis both as a soloist and chamber musician in North and South America, Europe, Asia and the Middle East.  

Rodrigues is the artistic director of both Voyageurs immobiles artistic company and the Montreal Guitar Society and is deeply involved in the development of the guitar audience in Montreal. 

He is especially interested in Latin American music and instrumental pedagogy, frequently giving conferences and master classes while coordinating his teaching activities between Washington metro area, as a Suzuki certified instructor, and  Montreal, where he teaches at the Université de Montréal.
