Alexandra (Ali) Jones is a Brooklyn based Suzuki teacher and freelancer. A native of central Minnesota, Ali learned to play cello through the string program run by the local high school orchestra and guitar teacher, Grant Wilcox. It was expected (and needed) for older students to teach younger students. This is how the program was built and the result, after many years, was a strong system of student-teachers, a high level high school string orchestra, and an extraordinary number of young string players in one small town. This is where Ali first learned to play the cello and teach. The beauty in community based music programs is blooming all over the world— its an exciting time to teach and learn together.

A complete list of Ali’s teachers: Grant Wilcox (Brainerd, MN), Joshua Koestenbaum (St. Paul, MN), Marion Feldman (NYU), Julia Lichten (SUNY Purchase), and Maxine Neuman (Private). Ali’s Suzuki certification is from Pamela Devenport at School for Strings in NYC. Ali teaches privately, at the United Nations International School, and Brooklyn Conservatory of Music.
