Alexa Johnson (née Sanfilippo) is a Raleigh NC area Violinist and teacher.

She completed a Masters degree in Violin Performance and Pedagogy at the University of Houston, from the studio of Dr. Kirsten Yon. She is a 2012 graduate of the Setnor School of Music at Syracuse University; she graduated Magna Cum Laude. During her time there, she performed in a string quartet, Samba Laranja (the school’s Brazilian Ensemble), and the SU symphony orchestra. She studied with Dr. Peter Rovit.  

She has recorded with country artists in Texas and has experience playing bluegrass/country with bands there as well. She performed/toured with Bubba Westly and Interstate Heartbreak all over Texas from 2012-2014.  She recently performed and recorded with The Recollection, a Houston, TX based band.

Alexa is a New England native. She studied with teachers at the New England Conservatory in Boston, MA for 6 years before college.  Her teachers there included: Fudeko Takahashi, Jenny Stirling, and Antoine van Dongen. She has performed solos with other New England area orchestras.  She made her solo debut at 14 with the Granite State Symphony, and played the Mendelssohn Violin Concerto with the Merrimack Valley Philharmonic when she was 17. From 2004-2009 she managed a string quartet played at many weddings and functions in the Boston area, and also worked as a soloist regularly at an Italian Restaurant.

She has experience teaching elementary through high school age students violin lessons since 2005. Her most recent teaching experience includes teaching group lessons at Houston, TX elementary schools through the Coda program with Houston Youth Symphony. She also taught private lessons at KIPP Sharp through the Melody program through Houston Youth Symphony. Both of these programs focus on providing Suzuki based violin lessons to economically disadvantaged students.
