Alex Hastings started playing violin at age eight and has thirteen years of violin experience in a diverse range of musical ensembles— including classically-trained orchestras, fiddle groups, jazz bands, and string quartets— alongside her studies as a solo violinist. In high school, Alex performed with the Idaho All-State Honor Orchestras (2014, 2016) and the NAfME All-Northwest Honor Orchestra (2015). She played in the George Fox Symphony Orchestra and the George Fox Chamber Strings while working as the Orchestra’s Librarian and Secretary.

Alex received a master’s degree in violin performance at Boise State University under the
teaching of Craig Purdy, and she was a member of the 2020-2022 Boise State Graduate String
Quartet. Since graduating, Alex continues to teach, compose, and play in orchestras in Boise,
including the Boise Philharmonic, Boise Baroque Orchestra, and Opera Idaho. She also
maintains a full private lesson studio for violin and music composition students. Her business,
Spectrum Music Studio, is also growing online, selling printables and online resources for
musicians and music teachers.

In 2023, Alex began her position as Assistant Concertmaster of Boise Baroque Orchestra, where
she has been enjoying learning the complexity of baroque style. Alex is excited to continue
growing her music studio and performing in the Treasure Valley.

Alex loves spreading the joy of music to kids of all ages by teaching violin lessons. She regularly accommodates students with various learning challenges, and aims to make her studio a place for students of all abilities, needs, and learning styles.
