Julio Alejandro Lara Monroy, Mexico

Born in Mexico City in 1983. He started his musical studies at the age of eleven at the Yamaha Academy. There, he finished the classic guitar course getting the 6th grade given by Yamaha Music Foundation. Currently he studies the 7th semester of the Instrumentalist Guitar Bachelor program at the Escuela Nacional de Música under the professorship of Alfredo Rovelo. In 2003, during the Conlow Nancarrow interpretation and musical creation workshop at the Escuela Nacional the Música, the young guitar player attended the master classes given by Ellen Aagaard, Stefano Scodanibbio and Magnus Andersson. In 2004, Lara attended to a free improvisation workshop taught by saxophonist Remi Álvarez. His musical interests have led him to find outside the academic fields a fertile ground to exploit his talent. During 2005, he toured Mexico and Central America as guitar player of the Mexican pop band Kabah. In 2006 released Panamerica, the debut album of Turbina, an experimental rock band founded by Lara and Gabriel Ortega in 2001. With Artoensamble, a free improvisation ensemble founded by Lara, the composer Ramón Del Buey and the violin player Carlos Alegre, he has made several recordings and also they were winners of the Artes por todas partes contest organized by the Mexico City Government in 2006. Alongside to his activities as composer and performer, Alejandro Lara has spent a lot of time as an independent music teacher. In 2004, during the 4th Cedros-UP festival, he attended to the courses given by Katalin Szútrely, Michael Lamp and Nancy Lokken dedicated to Kodaly method, musical technology and Suzuki method respectively. Other ensembles and musical groups Lara has worked with are the Mexican improvisation project Generación Espontánea and the guitar orchestra Orquesta de Guitarras de la Escuela Nacional de Música. Due to his versatile and eclectic style, Alejandro Lara has been presented in the most important compounds of the country, from the Carlos Chávez concert hall to the Auditorio Nacional and Foro Sol, among others.

Nació en la Ciudad de México en 1983. Inició sus estudios musicales a la edad de 11 años. Estudió en la Academia Yamaha donde terminó el curso de guitarra clásica obteniendo el grado 6 que otorga la Yamaha Music Fundation. Actualmente estudia en la Escuela Nacional de Música de la UNAM donde es pasante de la carrera de instrumentista con especialidad en guitarra clásica bajo la cátedra de Alfredo Rovelo. En 2003, durante las jornadas de interpretación y creación musical Conlon Nancarrow que tuvieron lugar en la Escuela Nacional de Música, el joven guitarrista asistió a las clases magistrales impartidas por Ellen Aagaard, Stefano Scodanibbio y Magnus Andersson. En 2004, asistió al taller de improvisación libre impartido por el saxofonista Remi Álvarez. Sus inquietudes musicales lo han llevado a encontrar fuera de la academia un terreno fértil para explotar su talento. Durante el 2005 realizó una gira por México y Centroamérica como acompañante del grupo de pop Kabah. En 2006 editó Panamerica, álbum con temas originales interpretados por Lara y demás miembros de Turbina, banda de rock experimental que él mismo fundó en el 2001. Con el ensamble de improvisación libre Artoensamble integrado por el compositor Ramón del Buey y el violinista Carlos Alegre ha realizado varias grabaciones, y en 2006 fueron ganadores del programa Artes por todas partes organizado por el Gobierno de la Ciudad de México. En el verano del 2010 es seleccionado por el Omi International Arts Center y viaja a la ciudad de Nueva York para participar en la edición anual de residencias internacionales para músicos. Paralelamente a su actividad como compositor y ejecutante, Alejandro Lara ha dedicado un tiempo considerable a la docencia como profesor independiente. Desde 2004, Lara ha asistido a los cursos impartidos por Katalin Szútrely, Michael Lamp, Nancy Lokken y Caroline Fraser, dedicadas al método Kodaly, tecnología musical y método Suzuki respectivamente. Otros ensambles y agrupaciones con las que ha colaborado son el proyecto mexicano de improvisación Generación Espontánea y la Orquesta de Guitarras de la Escuela Nacional de Música. Debido a su estilo versátil y ecléctico, Alejandro Lara ha podido presentarse en los recintos más importantes del país, desde la sala Carlos Chávez, hasta el Auditorio Nacional y el foro Sol, entre otros.
