Armena Marderosian

Armena Marderosian started Oberlin Conservatory of Music as a piano freshman 1966, saw Suzuki violin kids there, saw Gretchen Hazen Smith’s Suzuki piano kids 1972 after Gretchen’s Matsumoto study with Mrs. Haruko Kataoka, and fell in love with Dr. Suzuki’s method! Started Suzuki piano teaching 1972. Started training Suzuki piano teachers 1974 of necessity for my absence (husband’s sabbaticals). February-June 1976, lived in Matsumoto, Japan with Suzuki family of Dr. Suzuki’s Talent Education Institute, watched 4 month of lessons and classes.

I’ve written articles for American Suzuki Journal, Suzuki World, Piano Basics, and my website www.suniproject.org “Sing for Your Baby” section. I direct the 501(c)3 nonprofit corporation The Suni Project: Music Preservation for the Armenian music of Grikor Mirzaian Suni (1876-1939) grandpa of my husband Ron Suny, I’m pianist for The Suni Project for our concerts, and author of articles about Grikor Mirzaian Suni.
