DESCRIPTION:Tuition: $780 payable by check to SASA + $20 nonrefundable deposit to the SAA\, payable below. \nThe Unit 1 Course oﬀers a foundational introduction to the Suzuki teaching philosophy and the pedagogy of Pre-Twinklers through Book 1 on violin and/or viola. The program includes: In‐class instruction (28 hours) plus required observation of lessons either on-line or in person (15 hours). We will cover diverse topics such as: Suzuki philosophy; parent/caregiver involvement in a Suzuki studio; listening and home‐practice strategies; pre‐reading and reading skills; tone and posture; violin versus viola with the beginning student; group classes and individual private teaching; planning recitals and manage the business/organizational side of teaching.  \nPrerequisites: completion of an introductory course such as Every Child Can! (ECC) or its equivalent. Active involvement in the regional Suzuki association is encouraged. It is strongly recommended that participants memorize the pieces in the Suzuki Violin/Viola Book 1 repertoire book\, and purchase or download reference recordings of the pieces prior to the beginning of the course. 100% attendance and completion of coursework is required for registration of any SAA courses. Final submission of any coursework must be done before November 8th (one week after the final class). \nPlease have a violin available even if this is not your primary instrument. DESCRIPTION:Cello Unit 2 will be held online Tuesdays (Feb 2\, 9\, 16 and March 2\, 9\, 16) from 8:30 am to 11am Chicago (Central) Time . Cost: $450\nIf you register for Books 2-3\, and Teaching Strategies\, the total cost is $900. \n100% attendance and Audition\, ECC\, and Book 1 are prerequisites. \nThis will allow the required Teaching Strategies course (to continue with book 3) to be held Feb 23\, March 23 & 30 and April 27. This is a separate registration. Book 3 follows the Tuesday schedule through May 18. \nRequirements for Book 2 besides 100% attendance are: \n\n1 book report\n1 wrap-up\n8 hours of observation\nthe practical exam\, which is playing the book from memory. The cost is $100 and the maximum in the class is 9. \nThe point of this course is to assess teaching. Each person submits 2 ten-minute videos of teaching for about an hour of viewing and discussion. I have taught this course many times and the enrollees come away energized with realizing the many styles that are effective and a game plan to refine their own presentations. If you don’t have a class\, you can participate with a video as a practice partner for a young cellist.
