SUMMARY:Cello Unit 1
DESCRIPTION:This Online Unit 1 Training is designed for teachers who want to build strong\, confident beginners from the very first lesson—using teaching strategies that are responsive\, practical\, and deeply grounded in how students actually learn. \nRather than focusing only on repertoire or abstract concepts\, this course emphasizes engaging teaching ideas shaped by the learner’s needs from Day One. You’ll explore how to observe\, diagnose\, and respond to students in real time—so teaching feels purposeful rather than reactive. \nWhat makes this course unique\n\n\nTeaching ideas rooted in real learning needsWe will focus on how to engage students from the very first lesson\, helping them feel successful\, motivated\, and secure as foundational skills are introduced. \n\n\nExtensive trainer lesson videosThe training includes curated lesson videos featuring students of a wide range of ages and technical challenges. These examples allow participants to study concrete teaching decisions\, troubleshooting strategies\, and pacing choices that can be immediately applied in their own studios. \n\n\nWeekly participant teaching videos with feedbackActive participation is a core requirement of this course. Each participant is expected to submit one teaching video per week from their own studio. These videos will receive direct\, timely feedback from the trainer\, supporting real growth in teaching clarity and effectiveness. \n\n\nHands-on teaching props for deeper learningEach participant will receive a package of teaching props\, which will be used throughout the course for in-depth discussion\, demonstrations\, and application. These tools support kinesthetic learning and help bridge abstract ideas into concrete teaching actions. \n\n\nParticipation expectations\nThis is an interactive\, practice-based training\, not a passive lecture course. Participants should be prepared to: \n\n\nAttend sessions live whenever possible \n\n\nTeach actively during the training period \n\n\nSubmit weekly teaching videos for feedback \n\n\nEngage openly in discussion and reflection \n\n\nBy the end of the course\, participants will leave with clearer sequencing\, stronger diagnostic skills\, and greater confidence in teaching beginners—along with practical tools they can use immediately. \nYou must be logged in to your SAA account and have Active Membership to join the course roster and pay the nonrefundable $20 deposit\, below. \nScroll down to the bottom of this page to the enrollment box\, click “+”\, then click “get tickets”. SUMMARY:Cello Unit 2
DESCRIPTION:Join dynamic teacher-trainer Dr. Shu-Yi Scott for an incredible week of learning Suzuki Cello Unit 2. \nThis course will be offered in dual-delivery mode\, so it will be possible to attend fully in-person or fully online. \nSuzuki Book 2 Teacher Training (Violin or Cello Unit 2) is an intensive\, pedagogically focused course designed for teachers working with students transitioning into the intermediate stages of Suzuki study. Offered over eight days in conjunction with the student institute\, the training provides approximately 28 instructional hours led by registered Suzuki Teacher Trainers and includes extensive observation of master teachers in action. The course explores in depth the teaching points and learning sequences for Book 2 repertoire\, with emphasis on developing expanded bowing techniques\, early shifting skills\, and the introduction of vibrato and tonalization. Throughout the training\, instruction is firmly grounded in Suzuki philosophy\, addressing how to nurture ability\, maintain student motivation\, and effectively engage parents at this critical stage of development. Building on the foundations of Every Child Can and Book 1 training\, Unit 2 equips teachers with practical\, adaptable strategies and a deeper musical understanding to confidently guide students through the technical and expressive demands of Suzuki Book 2. \nFaculty: Dr. Shu-Yi Scott is a sought-after Suzuki cello teacher trainer and international workshop clinician\, known for her dynamic teaching style\, clear pedagogical strategies\, and ability to connect with students and teachers of all levels.
