The Suzuki Valhalla Institute offers high quality instruction at all levels in a small program in a tiny village in the midst of pristine mountain wilderness. The beauty of the natural setting, the friendliness of the village and the Institute, and the well-oiled organization of the program are all hallmarks of the SVI.

Housing & Meals

New Denver is located in a popular summer tourist area, so we encourage you to book accommodations early. Many families choose to camp in beautiful local campgrounds. Some are available on a first-come first-served basis; a limited number can be reserved when registering. Information about available private homes for rent and lists of commercial accommodation are available through links on our website. The New Denver area has two food stores and a few small cafés but restaurant options are limited. Nutritious economical lunches can be ordered when registering.

Nestled between two pristine wilderness parks on the shores of Slocan Lake, the New Denver area is an outdoor-lover’s paradise. Hike, bike, swim, go canoeing or kayaking or just enjoy the million-dollar views. All classes are held in Lucerne School with larger performances in the acoustically lovely Memorial Hall in nearby Silverton. There are playgrounds and a large playing field outside, and the main downtown street and lakefront are within easy walking distance.

Other Info

The Advanced Chamber Music program begins two days earlier than the regular institute. A Mini-Institute two-hour option is also offered for students who may not have the stamina to cope with the full four-hour program. Priority for the Mini-institute is given to younger siblings of fully-enrolled students.

Please note: SVI registration will open in March and the institute often fills to capacity within two weeks. Visit the institute website and join our email list to be notified of registration opening.

The SAA sets guidelines for Suzuki institutes, festivals and teacher workshops and sanctions separate organizations to manage such events. For specific information on schedules, enrollment, pricing, housing, etc. please contact sponsoring organizations directly. Please see the Event Listing Guide regarding the posting of events.
