New Denver, BC
The Suzuki Valhalla Institute offers high quality instruction at all levels in a small program in a tiny village in the midst of pristine mountain wilderness. Housing & Meals
New Denver is located in a popular summer tourist area, so we encourage you to book accommodations early. Information about available private homes for rent and lists of commercial accommodation are available via our website. Many families choose to camp in beautiful local campsites. Some are available on a first-come first-served basis; a limited number can be reserved when registering. The New Denver area has three food stores and a few small bakeries and cafés but restaurant options are limited. Nutritious economical lunches can be ordered when registering.
Nestled between two pristine wilderness parks on the shores of Slocan Lake, the New Denver area is an outdoor-lover’s paradise. Hike, bike, swim, go canoeing or kayaking or just enjoy the million-dollar views. All classes are held in Lucerne School with larger performances in the acoustically lovely Memorial Hall in nearby Silverton. There are playgrounds and a large playing field outside, and the main downtown street and lakefront are within easy walking distance.
The Advanced Chamber Music program begins two days earlier than the regular institute. A Mini-Institute two-hour option is also offered for students who may not have the stamina to cope with the full four-hour program. Priority for the Mini-institute is given to younger siblings of fully-enrolled students.
Please note: The SVI normally fills to capacity by mid-spring. Register early to avoid disappointment!
The SAA does not run the workshops and summer institutes; it approves separate businesses to run them. For specific information on schedules, enrollment, pricing, housing, etc. please contact sponsoring organizations directly with inquiries.
