The McMaster Institute for Music and the Mind sponsors the Great Lakes Suzuki Institute.

MIMM brings together science and the arts in a unique and innovative way, with the goal of enhancing the scientific study of music across Canada and internationally.

Student Fees

Student Fees:

  • Registration $40
  • Student tuition $260

Students will have 4 hours of classes each day, including a master class and a group class. Enrichment activities for 2014 include juggling, jazz improvisation, art, chamber music and flute choir. Once again, we will prepare for our popular community concert on Friday at Bryan Prince Booksellers- this is always a highlight of the week. The institute closes with a Celebration Concert at 1 pm on July 12.

  • Registration fee $40
  • Unit 1 $530
  • All other courses $385

Special activities for teachers include an introduction to jazz improvisation and an opera aria masterclass.

Scholarships

Marc Kirouac Memorial Scholarship

For Teachers, Amount: $100, Application due: July 1
The scholarship is awarded by the directors of the Great Lakes Institute in memory of Marc Kirouac. Marc was a fixture at the institute for many years; teaching art, cooking for the faculty and making sure everyone was well-taken care of. No application is needed.

Housing & Meals

Housing is available in university dorms, or in nearby hotels.

Hamilton is served by John Munro International Airport ( www.flyhi.ca). Pearson International Airport in Toronto is easily accessible by shuttle,as is the Toronto Island Airport served by Porter Air (www.flyporter.com ). There is regular bus service from Toronto directly to McMaster. Shuttle service is also available from the Buffalo International Airport in Buffalo, New York.
