The Advanced Suzuki Institute is for violinists, violists, cellists and guitarists who are Book 1—10 and beyond. We will be at Santa Clara University in Santa Clara, CA in the Silicon Valley.

ASI is comprised of three student programs + Chamber Music (by audition, minimum book level required):

  1. Young Artistry Virtuoso Program (Suzuki Violin, viola, cello, guitar Bk. 7-10 and beyond)
    Post-Suzuki repertoire class, advanced technique/scales class, orchestra, masterclass, and enrichment class. In lieu of enrichment, students may also audition and register for chamber music.

  2. Advanced Program (Suzuki violin, viola, cello, guitar Books 3-6)
    Suzuki repertoire class, technique class, orchestra, masterclass, and enrichment class. In lieu of enrichment, students may also register and audition for chamber music.

  3. Pre-Advanced Program (Violin, viola, cello , guitar book 1-2, post-Twinkles)
    Supports families who have students who don’t yet meet the advanced criteria. These students will receive masterclass, repertoire class, and enrichment.

Student Fees

Open to violinists, violists, cellists, and guitarists in Book 1-10+. Teens age 12+ may stay in our supervised teen dorm. Students under 12 need a parent to accompany them.

  • Young Artistry Virtuoso Program: (violin, viola, cello, guitar bks 7-10+) & Advanced Program (violin, viola, cello, guitar bks 3-6) $590 before April 20; $630 after April 20
  • Pre-Advanced Program (Bks 1-2 post Twinkles) $340 before April 20; $380 after April 20
  • Chamber Music (violin, viola, cello: with audition) $75

Teacher Fees

  • Sunday—Thursday, Violin Unit 3 with Judy Bossuat Gallic $450 before April 20; $475 after April 20
  • Sunday—Thursday, Guitar Unit 3 with Jospeh Pecoraro $450 before April 20; $475 after April 20

Monday-Thursday ONLINE, Cello Enrichment with Avi Friedlander: $265 (includes SAA registration fee)

  • Sunday only, Violin Teacher Workshop with Clarisse Atcherson $175 (includes lunch)
  • Daily Observation $55/day OR $175 for Monday-Thursday
  • Daily Observation with student enrolled at ASI $35/day

Housing & Meals

Families may stay on or off campus.
Housing is available on the Santa Clara University campus (Sunday-Wednesday nights). Additional night housing available.
Fees include room & board from July 17 (dinner) to July 21 (lunch).
Teens (12+) can elect to stay in our supervised teen dormitory for an additional fee.
On campus housing includes twin beds (limited availability)

  • Commuter Lunch (Monday-Thursday, 4 meals) $65

Dorm Housing (communal bathroom): Single $365; Double $310 per person
Dorm Suite (private bathroom): Single $425; 2-person Suite $870; 3-person Suite $1125; 4-person Suite $1380
Teen dorm (supervised), age 12+ (communal bathroom): Single $480; Double $430 per person


Santa Clara University is located in the Silicon Valley about an hour south of San Francisco. The weather is almost guaranteed to be perfect. Recreational activities can be found on campus and historic landmarks can be visited. Commuter families can bring scooters to use on campus. The institute offers free evening concerts with guest performers.

Other Info

The Santa Clara University campus is handicapped accessible. Tuition assistance may be offered to viola and cello students who participate in chamber music. The San Jose Airport (SJC) is only 3 miles away.

The SAA sets guidelines for Suzuki institutes, festivals and teacher workshops and sanctions separate organizations to manage such events.
