SUMMARY:Violin Unit 2 and Teaching Strategies
DESCRIPTION:Suzuki Teacher Training at UNT\nViolin Unit 2 & Teaching Strategies Prerequisites – all must be complete on your SAA profile before you can join the roster below: \nActive SAA Membership\nECC (or Filosofia) and Violin Unit 1 (or Viola Unit 1)Basic\, Intermediate\, or Comprehensive Audition \nSuzuki Unit Two taken in conjunction with Teaching Strategies is an intensive\, pedagogically focused course designed for teachers working with students transitioning into the intermediate stages of Suzuki study. Offered over eight days in conjunction with the student institute\, the training provides approximately 23 instructional hours led by registered Suzuki Teacher Trainers and includes extensive observation of master teachers in action. The course explores in depth the teaching points and learning sequences for Book 2\, with emphasis on developing expanded bowing techniques\, sixteenth-note passages\, varied articulations\, early shifting skills\, and the introduction of vibrato and tonalization. Throughout the training\, instruction is firmly grounded in Suzuki philosophy\, addressing how to nurture ability\, maintain student motivation\, and effectively engage parents at this critical stage of development. Building on the foundations of Every Child Can and Book 1 training\, Unit 2 equips teachers with practical\, adaptable strategies and a deeper musical understanding to confidently guide students through the technical and expressive demands of Suzuki Book 2. \nStudents Taking Teaching STrategies are required to Bring Video Recordings:\n\nEach participant brings 2 recordings of 6-10 minutes each. At least one of the recordings should be of an individual lesson. In some situations\, longer lesson clips may be shown.\nIf a participant is not currently teaching individual lessons\, they need to contact the trainer to set up an alternative\, such as teaching a student from the trainer’s studio\, from another teacher’s studio\, or teaching an Institute student.\nRecommended criteria\n\nStudent working on Suzuki repertoire\, with the teacher actively teaching (i.e. more teaching than student just playing)\nStudent playing from memory\nStudent and teacher are in camera view\, if possible\, and parent is present\nIf Teaching Strategies is incorporated in a Unit 2 course\, the repertoire in the recording should be from book 1.\n\n\nParticipants may bring any recording they choose. Some possible options are those that:\n\nShow challenging situations\nInclude a topic they are having trouble getting across\nBest represent them as a teacher\nShow a group class\nShow an entire lesson (if time permits)\n\n\n\n\nFaculty: Daina is a highly qualified Suzuki violin and viola teacher and teacher trainer. She has been involved with Suzuki Talent Education for over thirty years\, as a student and teacher\, and now as a parent. She is a registered Suzuki Violin Teacher Trainer for the Suzuki Association of the Americas and the Co-Director of the North Texas School of Talent Education\, a Suzuki violin and viola program founded by Charles Krigbaum in 2001.\n\n\n\nYou must be logged in to your SAA account and have Active Membership to join the course roster below.  \nScroll down to the bottom of this page to the enrollment box\, click “+”\, then click “get tickets”. SUMMARY:Cello Teaching Strategies
DESCRIPTION:This 10-hour pedagogy masterclass is designed to enhance teaching skills in a supportive\, trust-based environment. Rather than focusing on repertoire\, this course centers on how we teach—strengthening observation skills\, refining communication\, and reinforcing the strategies that create meaningful learning moments for students and families. Each session functions as a pedagogy masterclass in which participants present their own teaching for feedback\, gaining practical insights to improve effectiveness. It is a prerequisite for Unit 3 training. \nAt each class\, participants share their prepared video excerpts (6–10 minutes) of their individual and/or group teaching\, aligned with their registered training level. At least one video must feature an individual lesson with the student playing Suzuki repertoire from memory\, and include visible interaction between teacher\, student\, and parent whenever possible. Videos serve as a springboard for collegial discussion\, allowing the group to celebrate effective teaching and identify one or two high‑impact areas for growth. \nYou must be logged in to your SAA account and have Active Membership to join the course roster below.  \nScroll down to the bottom of this page to the enrollment box\, click “+”\, then click “get tickets”. Follow the prompts to enter your payment information to pay the nonrefundable deposit fee.   \nYou will receive an email confirmation after signing up with instructions on how to pay the balance of the tuition.  You can also verify your enrollment from your profile under Upcoming Courses. \nIf the enrollment box isn’t visible and you only see the waitlist option\, it means you’re missing either an audition or a course prerequisite on your training profile. Please join the waitlist while you complete that class or wait for your audition results. You can check your training profile here to see what you are missing: https://suzukiassociation.org/person-profile/ \nIf you have any trouble enrolling here\, or if you wish to update your training profile with any missing courses\, please write to info@suzukiassociation.org.  \nAll transactions are final and non-refundable.

SUMMARY:Violin and Viola Teaching Strategies
DESCRIPTION:Teaching Strategies shifts the focus from what to teach to the art of how to teach—where real growth happens for both teacher and student. \nGrounded in the Suzuki philosophy that we learn best through observation and collaboration\, this course offers a dynamic\, interactive environment. Participants will explore a diverse collection of teaching videos\, engage in rich discussions\, and gain practical insights that can be immediately applied in their own studios. \nLed by Suzuki Violin Teacher Trainer\, Stacy Garner\, this course provides a supportive space for Violin and Viola teachers to reflect\, refine\, and reimagine their teaching approach. \nParticipants will share 10–20 minutes of their own teaching videos from private lessons\, master classes\, or group settings and receive feedback from the trainer and other participants. Bring your teaching questions\, challenges\, and ideas\, and leave with fresh strategies\, renewed confidence\, and a deeper understanding of what constitutes effective teaching. \nPlease have your videos easily accessible via an online drive for seamless sharing during class. \nImportant: As of January 2025\, Teaching Strategies is a required course for all Suzuki teachers before enrolling in Book 3 training or beyond. \nYou must be logged in to your SAA account and have Active Membership to join the course roster below.  \nScroll down to the bottom of this page to the enrollment box\, click “+”\, then click “get tickets”.
