Each teacher should come prepared with two 30 minute lessons (or lesson segments)- most likely recorded from your home studio (unless you are local and want to bring a student in to teach in person). All participating teachers watch the videos together\, and each teaching sample is followed by a discussion led by Caroline. This is a unique course that not only offers individual attention and tailored ideas for improving your own teaching\, but also many opportunities to learn from the teaching and feedback for the other teacher participants (usually a mix of more and less experienced teachers). SUMMARY:Viola Practicum
DESCRIPTION:Course content and preparation: Practicum is a course about how to teach. Each participant will share videos of their teaching. We will analyze and discuss the pedagogical\, technical\, musical\, and psychological elements of each. Video lesson segments should include a complete 30-minute private lesson working on Suzuki repertoire and one 30-minute segment of participant’s choice. Possibilities are a consecutive lesson of the same student\, a group lesson\, a reading lesson\, a challenging student\, a behavior-issue lesson\, a parent-issue lesson\, a lesson at a different book level\, a student recital\, etc. More footage may be prepared\, but amount of viewing will depend on time constraints\, class size\, etc. \nPlease reach out if you have questions or would like more information. \nYou must be logged in to your SAA account and have Active Membership to join the course roster. \nScroll down to the bottom of this page to the enrollment box\, click “+1”\, then click “get tickets”. SUMMARY:Guitar Practicum
DESCRIPTION:The class is a hybrid class with either in-person or online participation. Course will run from 3/10-3/14. Classes will be from 10 am to 1 pm EDT. \nThe Practicum is a core course that can be taken after completing the ECC course\, Book 1. Participants must have a current Suzuki studio and have taught Suzuki students for a minimum of one year. \nActivities in SAA Practicum Units™ consist of a combination of discussion of participants’ videoed lessons of his/her home students\, teaching exercises\, and on-site teaching. On-site teaching is to include volunteer students who would receive extra lessons. Volunteer students may or may not be students from participant’s or trainer’s own studio. \nVideo lesson segments should include a complete 30-minute private lesson working on Suzuki repertoire and one 30-minute segment of participant’s choice. Possibilities are a consecutive lesson of the same student\, a group lesson\, a reading lesson\, a challenging student\, a behavior-issue lesson\, a parent-issue lesson\, a lesson at a different book level\, a student recital\, etc. More footage may be prepared\, but amount of viewing will depend on time constraints\, class size\, etc. \nThe required 8 hours of observations can be done online with videos I will provide or can be done locally with teachers in home area of the online participants. They do not need to be instrument specific. For teachers who are local to the central Connecticut area\, I can be observed for private and group lessons. \nJoin the roster below\, then arrange payment directly with David Madsen.

DESCRIPTION:Participants will have the opportunity to return to their home studios and implement ideas and strategies in their teaching\, before the final 2 hours of class work and discussion around their experiences. \nPracticum focuses on honing the art of teaching\, to enhance the level-by-level unit training. Practicum is recommended for all teachers and can be taken multiple times\, any time after Unit 1. With a maximum class size of 5\, the course allows for much individual attention. Participants will prepare two videos: \n– A complete 30-minute lesson \n– One 30-minute segment compiled of materials of their choice: consecutive lesson segments from the same student\, a group lesson\, a reading lesson\, a challenging student\, lesson segments at different book levels… \nIt is recommended that participants record many lessons over time and select from them the portions to include on the video brought to the Practicum. \nThis violin practicum will meet on Wednesday mornings from 10:00 am – 1:00 pm Eastern Standard Time zone.   For in-person participants\, we will meet at the Druid Hills Presbyterian Church at 1026 Ponce De Leon Ave Atlanta\, GA 30306.  Choir Room on the 2nd floor.
