This course will be held online with a possible St Louis in person option.
Dates are Sunday Sept 19, Sept 26, October 10, October 17 and November 14.
2-7 pm CST. Observations will be during these class times.
Prerequisites for the course are Suzuki ECC/Filosophia and Volume 1 on your instrument.

Event Description

A heterogeneous string class taught using the concepts of the Suzuki Method has the interest of many string teachers. This Suzuki in the Schools course explores the application of the Suzuki philosophy and materials for classroom success.

The 23-hour course includes 15 hours of classroom instruction, 5 hours of observation and supervised teaching in a Violin B class, and three hours of observation of the trainers in orchestra and group classes. Trainer will provide videos of working with public school classes for participants interested in additional observations.

Participants wishing to register the course with the SAA must have completed and registered ECC and Book 1 in their individual instrument.

Prerequisite course:

Bass Unit 1, or Cello Unit 1, or Flute Unit 1, or Guitar Unit 1, or Harp Unit 1, or Organ Unit 1, or Piano Unit 1, or Recorder Unit 1, or Viola Unit 1, or Violin Unit 1, or Voice Unit 1

Trainer Information

Winifred Crock

In demand as a clinician, lecturer and conductor, Winifred Crock has lectured at Midwest, NAFME, ASTA and SAA conferences and has been the featured string clinician at universities and conferences across the country and internationally. Mrs. Crock was the Director of Orchestras at Parkway Central High School, Parkway School District, for over 25 years and has maintained a private violin studio in suburban St. Louis, Missouri for far longer. Mrs. Crock holds music degrees from SIU-E and Kent State University. She is a graduate of the Suzuki Talent Education Institute in Matsumoto, Japan under the tutelage of Shinichi Suzuki, is a SAA Teacher Trainer and is a certified Kodály method instructor. She has received numerous teaching awards and is the author of publications including the Pattern Play for Strings Series, and with Laurie Scott and William Dick, the Learning Together Series, They have also been the recipients of the SAA Community Learning Award.
