Event Description

Teacher training at the Northern Illinois Suzuki Guitar Institute will be available either in person or online. Please inquire for details.

Suzuki Guitar Unit 2 provides approaches to teaching rest stroke in combination with bass notes, free stroke and combining strokes for melody and accompaniment playing. It also establishes note reading skills and ear training.

This course is in a new format, combining Book 2 Teacher Training with Teaching Strategies; a master class for greater effectiveness in teaching.

The teaching strategies course will have a 3 hour online introduction ahead of the scheduled course beginning.*

This course is a combined Book 2 Teacher Training with Teaching Strategies.

The inclusion of the Teaching Stratgies is designed to ensure greater success at the early level. The book 2 course fee ($575) includes the cost for the teaching strategies course.

Teacher training at the Northern Illinois Suzuki Guitar Institute will be available for either in person participation or online. Please inquire for details.

The teaching strategies course will have a 3 hour online intro ahead of the scheduled course beginning.

For teaching strategies teachers may bring a recorded lesson or group class with the teaching portion of the lesson being about 10 to 15 minutes in length. There may also be students available to teach as needed. 

For Book 2 Teacher Trainees should prepare the musical repertoire prior to the start of the class to the point of fluency. Listening to the book 2 CD is an important part of learning the material. Book 2 participants are expected to memorize the repertoire in order to get the most out of the course.

Prerequisite course:

Guitar Unit 1

Audition: Guitar Basic, or Guitar Intermediate, or Guitar Comprehensive.

MaryLou Roberts

MaryLou Roberts teaches Suzuki Guitar and is Coordinator of the Ann Arbor Suzuki Institute. As a Suzuki Teacher Trainer in Guitar, she helps establish programs throughout the Americas and in Europe. She served for 4 years on the SAA Board of Directors, and is currently the ISA guitar committee chair, and a Board member of the Guitar Foundation of America. BM Guitar Performance, Wisconsin Conservatory of Music, MM Cleveland Institute of Music, Pi Kappa Lambda and Valedictorian.
