  • Classes and observations are held Mon-Fri, 8-11 AM and 1-4 PM unless otherwise noted by trainer

  • Additional live events at ASI include teacher/parent lectures, student recitals, and guest artist/faculty concerts. Not all of these events will be live streamed for online participants

  • Festival concerts occur throughout the day on Friday, concluding in the evening

  • Residence Hall checkout: Saturday 12 PM

Event Description

  • This course will be offered both in-person and online

  • Required observations may be live or pre-recorded, at the instructor’s discretion

  • Observations are held Mon-Fri within the hours of 8-11 AM and 1-4 PM, unless otherwise noted by the trainer

  • Visit the American Suzuki Institute website for course prerequisites and requirements

  • $40 tuition rebate will be given to teachers who sign up for two Suzuki core units (SECE, Practicum, Enrichment, and Supplemental courses not included)

  • $25 tuition rebate will be given to teachers who sign up for a Unit or Supplemental course and a 10-hour Enrichment course in the same week.

Prerequisite course:

Harp Unit 1

Audition: Harp Basic, or Harp Comprehensive.

Deadline: All audition materials must be submitted by July 9 *

Trainer Information

Phala Tracy

Phala Tracy teaches Suzuki harp and music theory at Studio Fidicina in Minneapolis, MN and she is adjunct professor of harp at Gustavus Adolphus College in St. Peter, MN. She teaches at summer Suzuki Institutes across the country and she is a registered Suzuki harp teacher trainer.   Phala plays in a band with Minneapolis singer/songwriter Matt Wilson and she is an active arranger, composer, improviser and freelance musician in the Twin Cities.  She holds a BM from Oberlin Conservatory of Music and an MFA from the California Institute of the Arts.  She has a whimsical collection of songs about animals Critter Songs and an ever-growing curriculum of Music Theory in Song and Rhyme.
