Event Description

A brief introduction to Schenkerian analysis will precede an in-depth discussion of how to use a ‘baby version’ with students beginning at the book 2 level.  Using a method developed by Abbey, participants will explore a new way to evolve confident and competent musical independence in their students.  Select pieces from Suzuki cello books 2-8 will be explored through ‘Baby Schenker’ and more advanced theory and musical concepts added in tandem with piece advancement.

Abbey Hansen

Abbey Hansen serves as full-time faculty at the Cleveland Institute of Music serving both as the long-term cello teacher trainer for the Masters in Cello Performance and Suzuki Pedagogy degree, and as the head of Suzuki cello in the Sato Center for Suzuki Studies. Prior to teaching at CIM, Abbey spent 11 years teaching at the Music Institute of Chicago. An in-demand guest clinician, Abbey has taught and lectured at workshops and institutes throughout the United States. She has also performed in several chamber music ensembles in Chicago and Cleveland and has been featured in faculty and alumni recitals throughout the Midwest.
