Event Description

This course will explore ideas for helping each student develop a sense of ownership of their musical development, and the ability to be persistent and resilient. The course will include practical ideas plus discussion of selected readings from the following books: “Grit” by Angela Duckworth and “mindset” by Carol Dweck.

Scans of the selected readings will be sent to the participants prior to the beginning of the course.

This course is not instrument specific.

Trainer Information

Nancy Jackson

Nancy Jackson is the Assistant Director of the Western Springs School of Talent Education, in Western Springs, Illinois, where she teaches both violin and viola. She is a registered Violin Teacher Trainer with the Suzuki Association of the Americas, and is active in training young teachers locally and at summer institutes. Nancy holds a Bachelor of Music Education and a Master of Music in Violin Performance from Northwestern University. Nancy has been awarded the Certificate of Achievement from the SAA, and in 2017 was named Outstanding Studio Teacher by Illinois ASTA. She founded the Suzuki School of Music in Bismarck, North Dakota, in 1986. She has also taught at the University of Evansville (IN) Suzuki program, and Western Illinois University. Nancy is an avid golfer and cyclist, and also enjoys spending time with her two cats, Mimi and Musetta.
