Event Description

Unit Courses include the pedagogy of the Suzuki approach and the musical, physical and social development of students, and are open to Suzuki teachers or those aspiring to become teachers. Enrollment requires successful completion of an SAA audition. The unit courses correspond in name to the number Suzuki Repertory books. Cello Unit 2 is a 15-hour course plus 8 hours of student lesson observation. Note: Unit Courses Book 1-3 should be completed consecutively and in order. Unit Courses for Books 4 and up may be completed in any order once Books 1-3 are complete.

Prerequisite course:

Cello Unit 1

Audition: Cello Basic, or Cello Intermediate, or Cello Comprehensive.

Deadline: All audition materials must be submitted by June 22 *
*A discounted Audition Fee applies if audition is submitted before April 27. If submitted within 8-weeks of the course start date, the regular audition fee will apply.

Trainer Information

Alice Vierra

Alice Vierra is an SAA Registered Teacher Trainer. She received a B.M.E from the University of Iowa and a Master’s in performance from the University of Wisconsin. She recently moved to the Tucson area and is accepting new students. She taught cellists in her private studio of 25 students ages 4—17 in the Greater Washington DC area, and also taught at the Levine School. She is a past president of SAGWA, has served as cello coordinator for one of the SAA Conferences, and is a member of the Board of the Hans Kindler Cello Society. She is a registered teacher trainer for the SAA and has taught at many Workshops and Institutes across the United States. She played with the Fairfax Symphony and Washington Bach Consort.
