Event Description
Unit Courses, seminars that include the pedagogy of the Suzuki approach and the musical, physical and social development of students and are open to Suzuki teachers or those aspiring to become teachers. Enrollment requires successful completion of an SAA audition. The unit courses correspond in name to the number Suzuki Repertory books. Violin Book 1 is a 28-hour course plus 15 hours of student lesson observation. The Foundation Course, Every Child Can!©, is a pre-requisite for Violin Book 1. Teachers may register for the Foundation Course in addition to Violin Book 1.

Graduate of Eastman School of Music; Writer for the Violin Column of the American Suzuki Journal; Recipient ASTA’s Leadership and Excellence award. VA ASTA Teacher of the Year 2008; faculty of ASTA International Workshops in Austria, Switzerland, Hawaii, France, Scotland, Norway and Australia; Clinician in U.S., Canada, Central and South America; SAA Teacher Trainer; Presenter, Keynote speaker or Violin Coordinator at twelve S.A.A. Teacher’s Conferences; Presenter, Keynote speaker at Australian String Teachers Assn. in Canberra and Melbourne Australia. Violin faculty at the University of Maryland (Retired); Director of MM program in Performance with Specialization in Suzuki Pedagogy; Directs and teaches full time at the Northern Virginia Suzuki Music School; Director of the Greater Washington Suzuki Institute (1976-2021).
