Advanced Program

Event Description

The Advanced Student Program is designed for string students who wish a more intensive program of applied instrumental study in addition to the 
chamber music experience. 

Advanced Program Conponents
- 3 one-hour private lessons and 2 coachings with a piano accompanist over the

course of the week

  • Daily technique class, repertoire class, chamber music coaching,

and orchestra

  • Special classes (including viola for violinists and cello choir)

  • Students in the Advanced Program are expected to be prepared to perform
    a solo during the Institute

*Please note:  individual arrangements must be made in advance for any student who wishes to attend the Institute without a chaperone for the Chamber Music program

Audition Information & Requirements (by audition only)

Students interested in the Advanced Music Program should have:
- intermediate (or higher) sight-reading skills
- strong independent practicing skills

  • studying Book 7 or beyond (or equivalent as determined by 
    the Institute director)

Required Materials:

  • High-quality audition 
  • Advanced Program Audition form

  • Completed registration form

  • Letter of recommendation from the applicant’s home teacher and the signed chamber/advanced program assessment form is required.

  • All applicants (new and returning) must submit a recording. 

Applicants will be notified of acceptance no later than June 1, 2018

Recording Submission Guidelines

1.    Audition recordings should be a DVD or Youtube link (or equivalent)

2.    Submission should include TWO pieces contrasting in style and tempo. 
Please list selections in order on the label/email. 
3.    Piano accompaniment is recommended for string players
4.    All submissions should be reviewed by the home teacher prior to submission. 
5.    Performances should represent the most polished level, 
not necessarily the most advanced piece.

If accepted into the Advanced Program, the applicant will be invited to perform one of the pieces submitted on his/her audition DVD on a recital. No substitutions will be allowed.
