Event Description

Cello Book 3 is 15-hour course that requires an additional 8 hours of student lesson observation. As a unit course, it focuses on the pedagogy of the Suzuki approach and the musical, physical and social development of students.  The course is open to SAA member Suzuki teachers who have registered completion of the Foundation Course, Every Child Can!, and the Cello Book 1 and 2 Courses with the SAA.

Prerequisite course:

Cello Unit 2

Audition: Cello Basic, or Cello Intermediate, or Cello Comprehensive.

Deadline: All audition materials must be submitted by June 11 *

Trainer Information

Beth Cantrell

Cellist ELIZABETH CANTRELL teaches children and adults at Suzuki Institutes and workshops throughout the US and in Europe. Dr. Beth is a registered teacher trainer and a member of the SAA Cello Committee. She served on the SAA Board from 2016—2021. Her cello studio is at Crozet Arts, where she is Artist-in-Residence.
Besides teaching, Dr. Beth has performed with many groups in central Virginia, including the Afton String Quartet, the Richmond Symphony, and as principal cello in the award-winning Waynesboro Symphony Orchestra.
Prior to moving to Virginia with her family in 2001, she was principal cellist for the Atlanta Ballet Orchestra, on the faculty of Kennesaw State University, and active in the Atlanta area as a teacher, chamber and orchestral performer, adjudicator, and recording studio musician.
She trained with Gilda Barston, Tanya Carey, and Marilyn Kesler.
