Every Child Can! logoEvery Child Can! an introductory course on the Suzuki philosophy and its application to education. For parents, teachers, prospective teachers and others, this course provides an inspiring, in-depth look at the Suzuki approach to teaching and learning. For teachers, ECC serves as the first course in the Suzuki Association of the Americas Teacher Development Program. To learn more, read about the ECC course and its guidelines.

This class runs from 10am to 6pm—with a 1 hour lunch break.

NOTE: Neither audition nor SAA membership is required for this course. This workshop is free for parents and guardians of students in the Music Enrichment Plus-Suzuki Strings program. Please contact the Registration Office at [javascript protected email address] or 416-408-2825 to enroll.


‘Every Child Can!’ (ECC) is an introduction to Dr. Suzuki’s philosophy and its application to Suzuki education. For teachers, parents, prospective teachers of any instrument and others, this course provides an inspiring, in-depth look at the Suzuki approach to teaching and learning. ECC also serves as the required first course in the Suzuki Association of the Americas Teacher Development program.

The course explores elements of the Suzuki Approach, the role of parents, an introduction to learning styles, and the importance of Suzuki pedagogical training as well as the history of the Suzuki method. An engaging and inspiring program, ECC includes video materials and SAA-developed courseware.

About the Instructor:

Susan Gagnon is an SAA Cello Teacher Trainer, holds the SAA’s Certificate of Achievement and was 2010 Conference Chamber Music Co-Coordinator. Susan Gagnon holds a Bachelor of Music from the University of Western Ontario. Susan was the recipient of a Canada Council grant to attend master-classes at the Banff School of Fine Arts with Janos Starker, Aldo Parisot, and Tsuyoshi Tsutsumi.

She has played with the Hamilton Philharmonic Orchestra since 1983. Ms. Gagnon has been on the faculty of the Royal Conservatory of Music, Toronto since 1984 where she is the Suzuki department coordinator and a core member of the Young Artists Performance Academy faculty. She is an examiner for the Royal Conservatory of Music, authored the last three Cello Syllabi and compiled the 2013 RCM cello series books.

She also is a member of the Canadian Federation of Adjudicators. Susan is past Chair of the Suzuki Association of Ontario. She has taught at Suzuki Institutes in both Canada and the United States and at Music at Port Milford, a chamber music camp for teens, since 1995.
