Event Description

**About the class: This class will be an in depth study of the philosophy and teaching method for Suzuki Piano. It will include musical, technical, and pedagogical study of Suzuki Piano Book 1 as well as guidance on setting up a Suzuki studio and working with young children.

It is the goal of the class to give teachers the information and tools to teach beginning Suzuki piano students, and to create a community of teachers that can research together.

There are 28 hours of class instructional time, and a minimum of 15 hours of observation of student lessons. Observation of recitals and group classes is also highly encouraged.

Prerequisite course:

Every Child Can!, or Filosofía

Audition: Piano Basic, or Piano Comprehensive.

Trainer Information

Leah Brammer

Leah Brammer is a catalyst for parents and educators to focus on developing children’s core abilities through music study. She has been researching and teaching Suzuki piano since 1980. She holds degrees in music education and piano performance and a master’s degree in piano pedagogy. Additionally, she studied with Dr. Haruko Kataoka over 20 years at numerous workshops, as well as study in Japan. Many of her students have performed with orchestra, in friendship concerts, and traveled with her to perform in 10-piano concerts in Japan. They have won awards, been accepted to major conservatories, and begun their own careers in music. Ms. Brammer currently has a studio in Portola Valley, CA. She continues to mentor teachers and teach students through SAA registered teacher training, at workshops around the United States, and combines this with the Core Teacher Research Forum of online video lessons and blogs.
