Teaching Group Classes for cellists: Cello

Group teaching is an essential skill for every Suzuki teacher. Through a combination of “hands on” group class teaching and lively discussions, participants will leave with a wealth of teaching ideas and deeper appreciation of the impact of the group class experience on the Suzuki student.

This is a supplement to the unit courses. Participants should be conversant with the Suzuki repertoire and have registered units through book 4.

Prerequisite: All books covered in the overview course.

Audition: Cello Basic, or Cello Intermediate, or Cello Comprehensive.

Deadline: All audition materials must be submitted by July 2 *
*A discounted Audition Fee applies if audition is submitted before May 7. If submitted within 8-weeks of the course start date, the regular audition fee will apply.

Carey Beth Hockett

Carey Beth Hockett has been actively involved in the Suzuki world for more than 30 years. She taught at the Ithaca Talent Education School and then for the London Suzuki Group and has recently joined the faculty of the Colburn School in Los Angeles. She was a member of the International Suzuki Association’s Cello Committee and served as repertoire consultant to the Associated Board of Royal Schools of Music. She has given numerous workshops for teachers and children across Europe and America is well known for her work with groups of all sizes. She is the founder of Corkybird Enterprizes, which produces creative designs for music education.
