Course Description: This course will cover all of the musical and technical development of the material in Suzuki Cello Book 1 as well as Suzuki Philosophy and parent education. Special attention will be given to all basics kills including posture of the body, instrument, bow hold, left hand set up and teaching through the priorities of Posture, Tone, Intonation, Musicianship and learning how to play by ear.

Prerequisite: Every Child Can!

Audition: Cello Basic,Intermediate, or Comprehensive (S.A.A. audition guidelines)

Refund Deadline: Refunds are available up until 30 days before the course start date. No refunds permitted for this course after October 15, 2016. There are no refunds given for registrants who do not complete the course prerequisites or audition requirement if the refund request is made after the refund deadline. Registrants who have not completed the course prerequisites and audition requirement by the first day of the course will continue to participate as auditors. Auditors observe the class but do not fully participate. Auditors will not have this course registered with the SAA as completed.

Audition: Cello Basic, or Cello Intermediate, or Cello Comprehensive.

Trainer Information

Sally Gross

A native of the Chicago area, Sally Gross is currently Cello Director at the Western Springs School of Talent Education and the Naperville Suzuki School. She holds a Bachelor of Music degree from Northern Illinois University where she studied with Marc Johnson, and a Masters of Music in Suzuki Pedagogy from Ithaca College where she worked with Carey Beth Hockett and Sandy and Joan Reuning. Before returning to the Chicago area in 2004, Sally taught at the Suzuki String School of Guelph in Ontario where she was also Artistic Coordinator. She has been a teacher trainer since 1990. As a dual citizen of the US and Canada, Sally has a keen interest in expanding Dr. Suzuki’s vision in both countries through her leadership, teacher training, and guest clinician appearances.
