Viola Unit 2

Class is Violin/Viola Unit 2. Trainer will demo on violin and participants are required to bring a violin to class everyday. Trainer will pick a “viola day” where participants have the option of bringing in violas. “Viola Day” will cover viola specific issues that require demonstration and exploration. Participants are welcome to bring violas on the designated “viola day” but it is not required. Class will be registered with the SAA as Violin Unit 2.
Audition: Violin Basic, or Violin Intermediate, or Violin Comprehensive, or Viola Basic, or Viola Intermediate, or Viola Comprehensive.
Deadline: All audition materials must be submitted by June 19 *
*A discounted Audition Fee applies if audition is submitted before April 24. If submitted within 8-weeks of the course start date, the regular audition fee will apply.

Sarah Bylander Montzka (viola/violin) is a graduate of Northwestern University (MM) and The Cleveland Institute of Music (BM). She is the Associate Director of the Suzuki program at the Music Institute of Chicago, a registered Suzuki teacher trainer and currently chairs the Board of Directors of the Suzuki Association of the Americas. She is the founder and director of MIC’s annual Violapalooza! workshop and a frequent clinician at workshops and institutes from Duluth to Tanzania. Previously, Sarah taught in the Jacksonville Symphony Youth Music Program—designed to reach young musicians of all backgrounds. She has also worked in the administrative field as Coordinator of Education Programs for the Jacksonville Symphony and Associate Director of the Colorado Suzuki Institute. Sarah has performed as a section violist in orchestras including the Jacksonville, Charleston and Savannah Symphonies.
