at The Suzuki Music & Teacher Training Academy of Tampa Bay

Every Child Can!

Instructor: Martha Shackford

Every Child Can! logoEvery Child Can! is a one day introductory course on the Suzuki philosophy and its application to education. For parents, teachers, prospective teachers and others, this course provides an inspiring, in-depth look at the Suzuki approach to teaching and learning. For teachers, ECC serves as the first course in the Suzuki Association of the Americas Teacher Development Program. To learn more, read about the ECC course and its guidelines.

The $30 “Every Child Can!” manual is included in the price of this course. Anyone may take this class, either as a per-requisite to the book 1 course (beginning Feb. 18, 2017), or just take it separately. It is not instrument specific. Non musicians are welcome and greatly encouraged to attend.

Immediately following, February 18, 2017, begins our Book 1, Stage 1 EVENT:

Cross Pollination Extravaganza of Tampa Bay

“Boldly Go Where No Suzuki Teacher Training Class Has Gone Before!”

This is the first time Suzuki teachers of various disciplines will come together in community as a cohesive Book 1 training unit.

The powerhouse line up will be:

Pandora Bryce, flute
Tanya Carey, cello
Mary Hofer, voice
Dorothy Jones, Suzuki Early Childhood Education (SECE)
Lynn McCall, Suzuki Early Childhood Education (SECE)
* SECE classes will be team taught by both instructors.
David Madsen, guitar
Martha Shackford, violin/viola *
Linda and Roger Stieg, violin/viola *
*Violin/viola classes will be team taught by all three instructors.

In this cross pollination extravaganza, a typical day will look something like this:
three hours with your specific teacher trainer and then the unique opportunity to come together in community with all nine master teachers every afternoon for approximately two hours. Each day this elite panel of SAA trainers will introduce “real life” discussion topics facing every Suzuki teacher.

The 15 hour SAA observation requirement will be met in the following ways:

  1. Master teacher’s videos of their own home teaching (private and group)
  2. And here is the really BOLD part…right in front of your very eyes…each master teacher will start a real, live beginning student and parent who have never played before!

This is a MUST ATTEND for any person wishing to expand their base of knowledge and skills surrounding the world of Suzuki Book 1.

Suzuki was taught by his father that in order to be great and noble, he had to consistently experience and be exposed to these qualities in his environment. This 9-day Unit 1 extravaganza is designed to immerse each participant in greatness. Our unique learning community fosters the development of character: kindness, nobility, intelligence, compassion, love and curiosity.

As Suzuki said, “First all human beings need to be educated to high ability, high character…to be awake. THEN music can save the world!”

Martha Shackford

Martha Shackford, SAA violin teacher and teacher trainer. Studios in Sarasota and St. Petersburg, FL. She has taught literally all over the world; taught music in public schools; founded a successful Suzuki School at the U. of AK; took her studio to Latin America spending 3 months starting the first Suzuki program in Bolivia; teaching in Institutes in several Latin American countries; conducted youth orchestras; a clinician throughout the U.S. at summer institutes and workshops. Has trained hundreds of Suzuki violin teachers in the Suzuki approach. Martha has developed and taught Suzuki parent courses; founded and run several Suzuki non-profits. She is still awed by the opportunity of teaching young children learn the violin or viola. It is in her interaction with a young child that she feels the most creative as a teacher, the most connected to the universe, and the most hopeful for the children of our planet.
