Event Description

Every Child Can! logoEvery Child Can! an introductory course on the Suzuki philosophy and its application to education. For parents, teachers, prospective teachers and others, this course provides an inspiring, in-depth look at the Suzuki approach to teaching and learning. For teachers, ECC serves as the first course in the Suzuki Association of the Americas Teacher Development Program. To learn more, read about the ECC course and its guidelines.

As part of the Suzuki Association of South Florida’s Fall Violin Weekend Workshop November 6-8, 2015 at the Frost School of Music (University of Miami) Carrie Reuning-Hummel will teach the SAA’s pre-requisite class Sunday, November 8 from 9am-4 pm.  ECC is non-instrument specific and is recommended for both parents and teachers interested in learning more about the Suzuki philosophy. Carrie Reuning-Hummel

Carrie Reuning-Hummel began the study of the violin at the age of five with her parents, Joan and Sanford Reuning in Ithaca, NY. She was one of the first Suzuki students in the U.S. and studied with Shinichi Suzuki on numerous occasions.

Carrie is the director of the Ithaca Talent Education Suzuki music school in Ithaca NY, and headed the long-term MM graduate program at Ithaca College in Suzuki Pedagogy and Performance (violin and viola) for eight years. Carrie is a registered Suzuki Violin Teacher Trainer and has taught at hundreds of institutes and workshops throughout the continental U.S. as well as in Hawaii, Puerto Rico, Canada, Mexico, Bermuda, and Israel. She served on the national Board of Directors of the Suzuki Association of the Americas for six years. Carrie is author of a  book titled Time to Practice: A Companion for Parents. Currently, she is delighting in spending time with her toddler granddaughter.
