Event Description

This 15-hour course is specifically designed to fulfill a dual purpose. Firstly, to examine the repertoire of the Suzuki Piano Volume 6 New International edition. Secondly, to meet the needs of Canadian Suzuki Piano teachers preparing students for the RCM examinations Grades 8 and 9 by using the Suzuki Piano repertoire. Working from both performance and pedagogic perspectives, this course emphasizes the Suzuki aspects of tone development, technical fluency, repertoire study, playing by ear, and music reading as part of the continuum from previous volumes of Suzuki repertoire. In addition, the course includes a practical investigation into the RCM technical, ear tests, and sight reading requirements as developed within the context of Suzuki Piano study. Teacher participants will perform the Suzuki Piano Volume 6 New International edition repertoire in class. Repertoire memorization is not required. Pre-requisites: Registration as a participant in ECC, Piano Units 1 (or Units 1A and 1B), 2, and 3 taken in order.
