Karlyn Brett

A classically-trained pianist/soloist/accompanist – beginning these opportunities with her concert-tenor father throughout Utah from age 10, and as her Church’s organist from age 10 – a calling she yet holds, Karlyn Frost Brett began her training at age 6 in Ogden, Utah with Maggie Gammell whose training legacy takes her back to Claude Debussy and Franz Liszt. Since moving to Spokane, WA in 1967 she has studied with Margaret Saunders Ott extensively, as well as Haruka Kataoka every year since 1981. She majored in Piano Performance at Brigham Young University -studying with Carl Fuerstner, continuing her concert performances, choral directing, composing, and accompanying throughout the Western States-accompanying and concertizing with such notables as metropolitan artist, Thomas Hampson; Gail Nelson of New York Met and Broadway acclaim; Seattle and Spokane Washington Chorales and Opera Workshops under the batons of Leanard Moore (Seattle), Sister Marietta Coyle (Spokane) and Donald Thulean (Spokane Symphony), and others too numerous to name. She maintains a large piano studio in Spokane, WA and is a Nationally Certified Teacher of Music with M.T.N.A. and a Teacher Trainer for the Suzuki Asso. Of the Americas –training/teaching at multi piano camps each summer.

A composer of numerous works, among the most notable are those done in collaboration with her dear friend, Winnifred Brickley Mason as lyricist, namely: “As I Have Loved You” – an Easter Musical performed six years in Spokane area; “Lost On The Way To Bethlehem” and “Mary, Bring The Baby” – Christmas Musicals also performed multi times in Washington State.
