DESCRIPTION:Modeled after Dr. Suzuki’s summer school\, the American Suzuki Institute (ASI) was the first Suzuki Institute held outside of Japan. Since 1971\, over 100\,000 students and their families have visited Central Wisconsin from all over the world for summer study. ASI is an inspirational and immersive experience for students and teachers alike. Student offerings in 2026 include: \nJuly 19-24 (Week 1): Piano\, Violin\, Voice SECE \nJuly 26-31 (Week 2): Cello\, Harp\, Viola\, Violin\, One-Week Chamber Music\, SECE \nJuly 19-31: Two-Week Chamber Music \nOptional Electives: Artists’ Imagination\, Composer’s Corner\, Dance\, Fiddling\, Taekwondo\, Viola for Violinists\, and Yoga. \nRegistration opens in February.  Student scholarships are available.  Check the ASI website for detailed information on classes\, tuition\, housing and meal plans\, and scholarships.

SUMMARY:Kitchen Table String Repairs
DESCRIPTION:Participants will learn about basic string instrument repairs under the guidance of luthier Dalton Potter.  “First watch\, then do” is the basic method for imparting the most commonly performed repair and maintenance procedures. Potential topics covered include how to cut a bridge\, refit friction pegs\, set up fallen soundposts (and how to tell whether they actually fit or not). We will cover tips on installing strings\, tailguts\, basic maintenance\, and analyzing potential repair needs. “Quick-repair” of uneven nuts\, bridges\, and loose fingerboards will be demonstrated. We will also cover gluing open seams and repairing broken necks in inexpensive instruments. DESCRIPTION:Taught in-person by Sharon Jones at the Omaha Conservatory of Music. \nThis foundational course explores child development from the prenatal stage through age three\, emphasizing the Suzuki approach to early education. Trainees will examine the influence of prenatal and postnatal learning environments\, the structure and goals of the baby/toddler class curriculum\, teaching strategies\, team teaching methods\, and the effective use of classroom equipment. The course also introduces prenatal music stimulation and its role in fostering early learning. Through daily written observations and opportunities to lead activities in baby/toddler classes\, participants gain practical experience in supporting musical and developmental growth during the earliest years of life. \nPrerequisites\n\nCompletion and registration of Every Child Can or Filosofia.\nSAA membership by the time of course start\nSECE candidates must be able to sing in tune\, keep a steady beat\, and must have studied the songs and rhymes of the original English language version of the SECE curriculum. Durante el curso se compartirán los videos\, se identificarán las fortalezas de cada profesor y se trabajará en propuestas efectivas para mejorar los aspectos más desafiantes de la enseñanza. \nPara ello\, cada docente deberá presentar un video de aproximadamente 20 minutos\, donde se lo vea dando clase de manera continua y sin ediciones. Es importante que el material tenga buena calidad de sonido e imagen. No hay un requisito específico en cuanto al nivel del alumno que aparezca en el video ni la edad del mismo. \nCada profesor deberá solicitar autorización a los padres de los alumnos que participen en la grabación. DESCRIPTION:Every Child Can is an introductory course to the Suzuki philosophy and method. For parents\, teachers\, administrators\, and prospective teachers\, this course provides an inspiring\, in-depth look at the Suzuki approach to teaching and learning. \nIn addition to exploring the elements of the Suzuki approach and its far-reaching goals\, it includes an introduction to the history of the development of Suzuki education\, the role of parents\, the importance of Suzuki pedagogical training\, and an overview of the SAA’s role in supporting teachers and parents. A fast-paced\, engaging and inspiring program\, ECC! includes video materials and SAA-developed courseware and provides each participant with useful reference materials (manuals) for later study. For teachers\, ECC! serves as the first course in the Suzuki Association of the Americas’ Teacher Development Program. \nYou must be logged in to your free SAA account to join the course roster below.
