  • August Fall…..something? Parents something?

Spotlight:

  • (AUGUST) SAC: On October 14th, SAC produced an event for students called Fall Festival 2017 that combined the Graduation Recital and the Play-In events in two sites in Denver, one site in Grand Junction and one site in Steamboat Springs.

  • In Denver, the Piano Play-In took place at the Schmitt Music Store, where we were well accommodated with over 35 pianos for 27 students and 6 teachers.

  • The strings and flute Fall Festival was at the Augustana Lutheran Church in Denver. In addition to Play in and Graduation recitals, enrichment classes were offered to students and an hour long teacher workshop was offered to all teachers (members and nonmembers). There were 79 students and 20 teachers involved throughout the day.

  • In Grand Junction, there were @20 students and 5 teachers represented in a 3 hour long event that included group classes and performance experiences.

  • In Steamboat, there were 20-25 students and 5 teachers represented in a one and half hour long, multi instrumental Play In.

  • (AUGUST) STXSA:(creativity and wisdom of a new chapter)

  • Bach at the Beach – Sept. 23-24, 2016. A play-in at the beach for students, and teacher discussion. This year, very little participation; 3 violin students performed, 4 teachers attended, so we decided to discontinue it next year.

  • Fall Musicale – Oct. 8, 2016.Teacher members select a few of their students who are well-prepared to perform in a recital; refreshments afterwards. About 15 students performed, violin and cello, all levels.

  • Spooky Suzuki Play-in – Oct. 29, 2016. – two locationsParents attended a parent education talk while students rehearsed, then came in to watch the performance.

  • Teacher Development Meeting – Nov. 6, 2016Several (8?) teacher members gathered at a member’s residence for a meeting, then we Skype’d with a prominent Suzuki educator, Alice Joy Lewis. She discussed the different learning styles of students and how we, as educators, can teach them.

  • Holiday Community Concert – Dec. 10, 2016—two locations

  • Winter Workshop – Jan. 13-14, 2017; every student had a master class, repertoire group and technique group, as well as an extra enrichment class.

  • Teacher Development Video – Feb. 4, 2017Some (5) teacher members gathered at a member’s residence to view an educational video. It was a talk from a series by a prominent Suzuki educator.

  • Chamber Music Workshop – March 25, 2017

  • Ribbon Festival – April 1, 2017This event was an opportunity for students to perform, while clinicians offer comments on their presentations – similar to a solo/ensemble competition, though not actually given ratings. Students perform in a recital setting, with each studio doing a separate recital. There were 110 violin/viola students and 5 cello students participating.

  • Graduation – April 22, 2017

  • Spring Workshop – April 28-30, 2017 She taught group classes, a different level each hour – Twinkle through book 4—with pieces specified by STXSA. 64 violin students participates, with several doing multiple classes.Friday we held a parent education class, and Sunday a teacher development lecture, given by the clinician.

  • Summer Community Concert – South, June 24, 2017. North, August 19, 2017 Students gathered at a nursing home to perform in a group for the residents. South – 16 violinists and 3 pianists participated, and 4 teachers helped. North – several violinists and cellists performed, and 3 teachers helped.

  • Because of this, we decided that, for the next year (2017-18), we would have fewer events and focus on those that were more well-attended. We decided on two main events in the fall (Fall Workshopand Fall Musicale), and two in the spring (Winter Workshop and Ribbon Festival). We would try to include teacher and parent classes at events. We would continue with play-ins also, as requested by members.

  • (AUGUST) SAM: Graduation Handbook. WOW!

  • (AUGUST) SAO: One page welcome letter. During the 2016-2017 year, the SAO worked on creating a one-sheet letter, designed to welcome new teachers taking training units in Ontario. Vice-Chair, Lenni Jabour, developed thisdocument, and distributed it this summer to the trainers running ECC! classes, and other training units this summer.

Chapter Goals:

Connect: Build community among all students, parents, and teachers.

Educate: Provide resources and/or support to teachers and parents, new and current, concerning Suzuki teaching and ideals.

Support: Financially benefit teachers and students for further enrichment (conferences, institutes, workshops).

Celebrate: Arrange Concerts, Graduation, Celebration, Cross Instrument Recitals, Honors Recitals to rejoice in music together.

Respect: Support the Suzuki name/ brand/legacy by assuring SAA membership for teachers, broadening membership, and providing grassroots feedback to the SAA.
