Highlights from the 2019 Suzuki Association Annual Meeting

The SAA Board of Directors held its Annual Meeting on Saturday May 25th, 2019 at the Deer Creek Lodge. Inattendance were an enthusiastic audience of SAA members, including members of country associations, chapter affiliates representatives, conference team, institute directors, teacher trainers, and trainer candidates. Members of the Board presented our association’s current state of affairs and a moving membership pitch by Winifred Crock.

At each year’s Annual Meeting, we announce the members who have earned the Certificate of Achievement, Level 1. This year’s list included nine new recipients!

Certificate Recipients—Leadership Retreat 2019

The Board welcomed new Board member, Trina Carey Hodgson from California. and appreciatively looks forward to her partnership. Incoming Board Chair Dr. Beth Cantrell introduced the new Chair-Elect, Rolando Freitag.

Directors acknowledged departing members Joan Krzywicki and Frank Viola. Their dedication and vision for our association deeply impacted the Board’s work, as well as the future of Suzuki education in the Americas. We look forward to their continuing contribution to our association.

To wrap up the meeting Board members provided a musical goodbye to Chair Joan Krzywicki whose Board service has spanned seven years.

Margaret Romney Session at Leadership Retreat 2019

Margaret Watts Romney finished her official duties with the SAA in May at the Leadership Retreat. Many of you have worked with Margaret over the past 3 years at Conferences and Retreats, where she has offered ideas for preparing our individual elevator speeches and creating successful presentations, helped you sharpen your leadership skills, and led and facilitated Chapter Affiliate sessions. On staff she has worked in several program areas: Parents as Partners Online, Chapter Affiliates, the ShortScore newsletter, as well as creating a podcast series. Thanks, Margaret, and congratulations on starting your own business as a professional speaker, coach, and consultant.

In Harmony in Historic Boston

Historic Boston String Group

Suzuki School of Newton’s In Harmony Tour Group perform at Quincy Market in the heart of historic Boston along the infamous Freedom Trail. This group of 15 students play numerous concerts throughout the region, and biennially travel a longer distance. This year’s group will be performing on Norwegian Cruises and will be stopping in Bermuda for an exchange with Suzuki Students there.
